Muscles that Move the Head

Mehrere Nackenmuskeln helfen, den Kopf auszubalancieren und erleichtern seine Bewegung am Atlanto-Hinterhaupts-Gelenk.

Wenn sie beidseitig zusammengezogen wird, unterstützt sie die Streckung des Kopfes, während die einseitige Kontraktion die seitliche Beugung und Drehung zur gleichen Seite unterstützt.

Die Muskeln, die den Kopf bewegen, sind eine dynamische und komplexe Gruppe von Strukturen, die zusammenarbeiten, um ein breites Spektrum an Kopfbewegungen zu ermöglichen, darunter Rotation, Beugung, Streckung und seitliche Beugung.

Der bilaterale Sternocleidomastoideus (SCM) sowie die suprahyoidalen und infrahyoidalen Muskeln sind wichtige Kopfbeuger. Die SCM-Muskeln haben ihren Ursprung am Brustbein und am Schlüsselbein und setzen am Warzenfortsatz des Schläfenbeins an. Der SCM zieht sich bilateral zusammen, um den Kopf nach vorne zu beugen, wohingegen eine einseitige Kontraktion eine seitliche Beugung auf derselben Seite oder eine Drehung des Kopfes auf die gegenüberliegende Seite bewirkt.

Der Nacken ist von Muskeln bedeckt, die den Schädel mit der Wirbelsäule und dem Brustgürtel verbinden. Diese Muskeln können in drei Schichten eingeteilt werden. Die oberflächliche Schicht umfasst den Trapezius, den Splenius capitis und den Splenius cervicis. Der Trapezius steuert die Schulterblattbewegungen und hilft beim Strecken und Neigen des Kopfes nach hinten. Der Splenius capitis und der Splenius cervicis, die von den unteren Hals- und oberen Brustwirbeln ausgehen und in den Schädel bzw. die oberen Halswirbel eindringen, arbeiten zusammen, um Kopf und Hals zu strecken.

Die tiefe Schicht umfasst die zervikalen Transversospinalis-Muskeln wie den Semispinalis capitis, den Semispinalis cervicis und den Multifidus cervicis. Diese Muskeln erstrecken sich hauptsächlich von den Querfortsätzen der Wirbel bis zu den Dornfortsätzen höherer Wirbel oder dem Hinterhauptbein. Der Semispinalis capitis zeichnet sich besonders durch seine Rolle beim Strecken und Drehen des Kopfes aus und trägt dazu bei, dass er nach oben schauen und den Kopf von einer Seite zur anderen drehen kann.

Die tiefste Schicht umfasst die Muskeln suboccipitalis, interspinales cervicis und intertransversarii colli. Die subokzipitalen Muskeln, die sich direkt unterhalb des Hinterhauptbeins befinden, sind für die Feinmotorik von entscheidender Bedeutung und helfen bei geringfügigen Anpassungen der Kopfposition und der Propriozeption – dem Gefühl der Eigenbewegung und Körperposition.

Neck muscles guide head motion by working together to bend, turn, and lift the head. They help with rotation, flexion, extension, and lateral bending. The sternocleidomastoid, or SCM, plus the suprahyoid and infrahyoid muscles are major head flexors.

The SCM runs from the sternum and clavicle to the mastoid process of the temporal bone. When both SCM muscles contract, they bend the head forward. When only one side contracts, it bends the head toward that side or turns the head to the opposite side.

The back of the neck contains muscles that connect the skull to the spinal column and the pectoral girdle. These muscles are grouped into three layers. The superficial layer includes the trapezius, splenius capitis, and splenius cervicis.

The trapezius helps move the shoulder blades. It also assists in extending the head and tilting it backward. The splenius capitis and splenius cervicis start on the lower cervical and upper thoracic vertebrae. They insert into the skull and upper cervical vertebrae, and they work together to extend the head and neck.

The deep layer includes the cervical transversospinalis muscles. These include the semispinalis capitis, semispinalis cervicis, and multifidus cervicis. They run from the transverse processes of the vertebrae to the spinous processes of higher vertebrae or the occipital bone. The semispinalis capitis is especially important for extending and rotating the head, which helps with looking up and turning side to side.

The deepest layer includes the suboccipital muscles, interspinales cervicis, and intertransversarii colli muscles. The suboccipital muscles sit just below the occipital bone. They help with fine control of head position and proprioception, which is the sense of self-movement and body position.
