Emitter Calibration

Emitter calibration is the process of adjusting and verifying a device so it delivers a controlled stimulus at the intended intensity, timing, and duration, which is essential for reliable behavioral measurement. Calibration typically compares the emitter’s output with a known reference or instrument reading, then uses the measured difference to refine operating settings and confirm stability across repeated trials. In behavior research, this process supports consistent delivery of sensory, chemical, auditory, thermal, or other experimental stimuli, helping researchers distinguish genuine behavioral responses from effects caused by variation in equipment performance. Regular calibration also strengthens reproducibility, data quality, and comparability among experiments.

Source: Laboratory of Dr. B. Jill Venton - University of Virginia Calibration curves are used to understand the instrumental response to an analyte and predict the concentration in an unknown sample. Generally, a set of standard samples are made at various concentrations with a range than includes the unknown of interest and the instrumental response at each concentration is recorded. For more accuracy and to understand the error, the response at each concentration can be repeated so an error...

Accurate calibration of glassware, such as volumetric flasks, pipettes, and burettes, is essential to ensure accurate measurements in the analytical laboratory. Calibration helps maintain consistency across measurements and prevents errors arising from inaccurate volumes. Volumetric flasks: Volumetric flasks are designed to prepare aqueous solutions of precise volumes accurately with a calibration line on the neck. To calibrate a volumetric flask, it is important to fill it with distilled...
