Albino Phenotype Assay

An albino phenotype assay is a biological method for identifying and measuring the absence or reduction of pigmentation, a visible trait that can reveal changes in genes and cellular pathways. It works by examining organisms or cells for reduced melanin production, linking the observed phenotype to disruptions in pigment-forming processes such as melanin synthesis and pigment-cell development. In biology, this assay supports genetic analysis, developmental studies, and investigations of inherited traits by providing a straightforward readout of genotype-related effects. It can also help researchers evaluate how mutations, environmental conditions, or experimental treatments alter pigmentation and related cellular functions.

A Barcoding Assay for Phenotypic and Functional Characterization of Immune Cells

2025

This video highlights a single-cell proteomic method that employs heavy-metal-conjugated antibodies for distinct cell barcoding. Subsequently, immunostaining and mass cytometry are applied to evaluate immune phenotypic and functional alterations in human whole blood-derived immune cells.

A Microscopic Phenotypic Assay for the Quantification of Intracellular Mycobacteria Adapted for High-throughput/High-content Screening

Here, we describe a phenotypic assay applicable to the High-throughput/High-content screens of small-interfering synthetic RNA (siRNA), chemical compound, and Mycobacterium tuberculosis mutant libraries. This method relies on the detection of fluorescently labeled Mycobacterium tuberculosis within fluorescently labeled host cell using automated confocal microscopy.

Protocol for Developing a Femur Osteotomy Model in Wistar Albino Rats

2022

Here, we present a protocol to iatrogenically fracture the shaft of the femur of Wistar albino rats and follow up on the development of the callus. This femur osteotomy model can help researchers evaluate the process of fracture healing and to study how a drug could influence fracture healing.

Here we describe two assays that have been established to study age-dependent neurodegeneration of dopaminergic (DA) neurons in Drosophila: the climbing/startle-induced negative geotaxis assay which allows to study the functional effects of DA neurons degeneration and the tyrosine hydroxylase immunostaining which is used to identify and count DA neurons in whole brain mounts.
