Cell Culture Medium

Cell culture medium is a nutrient-rich liquid or gel that supports the survival, growth, and maintenance of cells outside an organism under controlled laboratory conditions. Its components, including water, salts, amino acids, glucose, vitamins, and growth factors, help regulate osmotic balance, provide energy and building blocks, and maintain the pH and chemical environment cells need. Researchers select formulations based on cell type and experimental goals, often supplementing them with serum or defined factors to promote proliferation or differentiation. Cell culture medium is essential in biology for studying cell function, modeling disease, testing drugs, producing biologics, and developing tissue-engineering and regenerative medicine strategies.
