3d Projection Imaging

3D projection imaging is a group of imaging methods that reconstructs three-dimensional representations of biological structures from projected or two-dimensional image data, helping researchers visualize spatial organization that conventional images may miss. The approach typically acquires views from multiple angles and combines them computationally to estimate the size, shape, depth, and position of tissues or cells. In cancer research, 3D projection imaging supports analysis of tumor architecture, vascular networks, cellular distribution, and changes during disease progression or treatment. By preserving spatial relationships, it can improve characterization of tumor heterogeneity and provide quantitative information for studying invasion, drug response, and interactions within the tumor microenvironment.

We suggest a Born normalized approach for Optical Projection Tomography (BnOPT) that accounts for the absorption properties of imaged samples to obtain accurate and quantitative fluorescence tomographic reconstructions. We use the proposed algorithm to reconstruct the fluorescence molecular probe distribution within small animal organs.
