Phosphate Concentration

Phosphate concentration is the amount of inorganic phosphate present in a defined volume of a solution, cell lysate, tissue extract, or biological fluid, and it indicates the availability of a central nutrient and biochemical substrate. It is assessed by quantifying phosphate ions, often through a calibrated analytical assay, with results interpreted in relation to sample volume and experimental conditions. In cancer research, measuring phosphate concentration helps characterize phosphate uptake and release, energy and nucleotide metabolism, and changes in the tumor microenvironment. These measurements can support comparisons among cancer cells, tissues, treatments, and disease states.

Phosphate Buffer

The phosphate buffer system is a critical biological mechanism for maintaining pH stability in the body. This system operates primarily through two components: sodium dihydrogen phosphate (NaH2PO4), which acts as a weak acid, and sodium hydrogen phosphate (Na2HPO4), which serves as a weak base. Sodium dihydrogen phosphate does not fully dissociate in neutral or acidic solutions. When a strong base, such as sodium hydroxide (NaOH), is introduced into the solution, sodium dihydrogen phosphate...

A two dimensional model material of discotic zirconium phosphate was developed. The inorganic crystal with lamellar structure was synthesized by hydrothermal, reflux, and microwave-assisted methods. On exfoliation with organic molecules, layered crystals can be converted to monolayers, and nematic liquid crystal phase was formed at sufficient concentration of monolayers.

Leucine rich repeat kinases 1 and 2 (LRRK1 and LRRK2) are multidomain proteins which encode both GTPase and kinase domains and which are phosphorylated in cells. Here, we present a protocol to label LRRK1 and LRRK2 in cells with 32P orthophosphate, thereby providing a means to measure their overall cellular phophorylation levels.

Concentration Cells

A concentration cell is a type of a voltaic cell constructed by connecting two almost identical half-cells, both based on the same half-reaction and using the same electrode, differing only in the concentration of one redox species. A concentration cell's potential, therefore, is determined only by the concentration difference of the particular redox species. Consider the following voltaic cell: From the given information, the cell potential of this concentration cell can be calculated using...
