Theoretical Analysis

Theoretical analysis is the systematic study of a system, phenomenon, or design through mathematical models, established principles, and logical reasoning rather than direct experimentation alone. In engineering, it typically defines assumptions and boundary conditions, formulates governing equations, and uses analytical or computational methods to predict variables such as stress, temperature, fluid flow, stability, or system performance. These predictions help engineers evaluate designs, identify failure modes, compare alternatives, and guide prototype development while reducing testing time and cost. Theoretical analysis also provides a foundation for interpreting experimental results and extending engineering knowledge to conditions that are difficult, unsafe, or expensive to reproduce in the laboratory.

Theoretical Approaches to Psychological Disorder

2025

The development of psychological disorders, which are characterized by deviant, maladaptive, and personally distressing behaviors, has been explored through several theoretical approaches. Biological approach The biological approach posits that internal, organic factors are the primary causes of such disorders. This perspective emphasizes brain structure and function, genetic predispositions, and neurotransmitter imbalances. For example, schizophrenia has been associated with both genetic...

Theoretical Foundations of Nursing Practice

2023

Theories play an essential role in organizing patient care. Theories refer to a proposed or followed belief, policy, or procedure that is the basis for action. Nursing theories are knowledge-based concepts that guide nurses' actions, influence nursing education and practice, and allow nurses to care for their patients. Theories provide a perspective to assess patients' conditions and organize data and methods. They also assist in analyzing and interpreting information. They represent a...

Theoretical Calculation and Experimental Verification for Dislocation Reduction in Germanium Epitaxial Layers with Semicylindrical Voids on Silicon

2020

Theoretical calculation and experimental verification are proposed for a reduction of threading dislocation (TD) density in germanium epitaxial layers with semicylindrical voids on silicon. Calculations based on the interaction of TDs and surface via image force, TD measurements, and transmission electron microscope observations of TDs are presented.

Cross-Modal Multivariate Pattern Analysis

2011

Classical multivariate pattern analysis predicts sensory stimuli a subject perceives from neural activity in the corresponding cortices (e.g. visual stimuli from activity in visual cortex). Here, we apply pattern analysis cross-modally and show that sound- and touch-implying visual stimuli can be predicted from activity in auditory and somatosensory cortices, respectively.
