Arginine Uptake

Arginine uptake is the cellular transport of the amino acid arginine across membranes, a process essential for protein synthesis, nitrogen metabolism, and signaling in health and disease. It occurs mainly through membrane transporters such as cationic amino acid transport systems, which recognize positively charged arginine and regulate its movement according to concentration gradients and substrate exchange. In medicine, studying arginine uptake helps explain nitric oxide production, immune-cell function, wound healing, and metabolic disorders. Altered transporter activity can also influence tumor growth and response to therapy, making arginine transport relevant to diagnostics, nutritional strategies, and drug development.

The αvβ3 integrin is a type of adhesion protein that is highly expressed on activated endothelial cells undergoing angiogenesis. Thus, evaluating the integrity of the integrin is of great interest in oncology. Here, we introduce a method to prepare 68Ga-labeled radiopeptides and a method to assess its biological effectiveness.

Protein arginine methylation, catalyzed by a class of enzymes viz., protein arginine methyl transferases (PRMTs), is the process of enzymatic addition of methyl group(s) to arginines within proteins. The in vitro methylation assay is the most dependable tool for assessing the methylation status of known or novel PRMT substrates.
