Hepatic Artery Reconstruction

Hepatic artery reconstruction is a surgical technique that restores arterial blood flow to the liver after vessel injury, resection, or transplantation. Surgeons reconnect the hepatic artery or a suitable graft using precise vascular anastomosis, aligning vessel ends and securing a patent channel for oxygenated blood delivery. In liver transplantation and complex hepatobiliary surgery, reconstruction helps maintain perfusion of the liver and bile ducts, where arterial flow is especially important. Successful repair can reduce ischemic injury, support graft function, and improve postoperative outcomes, making careful vessel assessment and microsurgical technique central to modern vascular and transplant medicine.

Targeting Liver Tumors with Oncolytic Viruses via the Hepatic Artery

2025

The video demonstrates locoregional delivery of oncolytic viruses through hepatic arterial injection as a therapeutic approach for hepatocellular carcinoma. These viruses selectively replicate in tumor cells, inducing cell lysis and releasing tumor cell-associated antigens. This process triggers immunogenic cell death, inducing an anti-tumor response.

Heterotopic Auxiliary Rat Liver Transplantation With Flow-regulated Portal Vein Arterialization in Acute Hepatic Failure

Auxiliary liver transplantation provides a temporary support in acute hepatic failure, until regeneration of the failing liver. The heterotopic auxiliary liver transplantation (HALT) with portal vein arterialization (PVA) renders sufficient liver function. We developed an analogous technique in the rat, to examine the influence of the portal vein arterialization on the morphology and function of the graft.
