Peptide Yy Release

Peptide YY release is the secretion of the gut hormone PYY, a physiological signal that links nutrient intake with digestive and energy-regulatory responses. Specialized enteroendocrine L cells, particularly in the distal intestine, release PYY after nutrients enter the gastrointestinal tract; enzymatic processing produces PYY3-36, which acts mainly through Y2 receptors. PYY reduces appetite, slows gastric emptying, and modulates intestinal motility, helping coordinate digestion and post-meal satiety. In medicine, studying peptide YY release supports research into obesity, metabolic disorders, appetite regulation, and therapies designed to reproduce or enhance gut-derived signals controlling energy balance.
