Renal Perfusion Assessment

Renal perfusion assessment is the evaluation of blood flow through the kidneys, an essential measure of renal function and tissue viability. It uses clinical examination, laboratory findings, and imaging methods such as Doppler ultrasonography, computed tomography, magnetic resonance imaging, or nuclear medicine to estimate perfusion by tracking blood movement, vascular resistance, or tracer delivery through the renal circulation. In medicine, these assessments help identify reduced kidney blood flow caused by shock, vascular disease, obstruction, or transplant complications. They also support diagnosis, treatment planning, and monitoring of acute kidney injury, chronic renal disease, and recovery after intervention.

Determination of glomerular filtration rate (GFR) is the gold standard to assess overall kidney function. However, traditional procedures to measure this parameter are cumbersome and require a large investment of time. Here we describe a faster and minimally invasive method to determinate GFR transcutaneously.

Assessment of Diffusion and Perfusion

2024

Understanding and evaluating diffusion and perfusion is critical in assessing a patient's respiratory and circulatory health. These processes play key roles in maintaining the body's internal environment, ensuring that tissues receive adequate oxygen while waste products are efficiently removed. The Role of Diffusion in Respiration Diffusion is the process by which molecules move from an area of higher concentration to an area of lower concentration. In the respiratory system, this principle...
