Headspace Autosampler

A headspace autosampler is an analytical instrument that automatically samples volatile compounds from the gas phase above a sealed specimen, reducing manual handling and improving reproducibility. It heats and equilibrates a sealed vial under controlled conditions, then withdraws a defined volume of vapor and transfers it to a chromatographic system, commonly gas chromatography, for separation and detection. In neuroscience research, this approach supports analysis of volatile solvents, anesthetic agents, metabolites, and other compounds in biological samples such as tissue homogenates, blood, or cerebrospinal fluid. Automated temperature, timing, and injection control improve throughput while helping preserve sample integrity and enable consistent chemical measurements.
