Inferior Frontal Gyrus

The inferior frontal gyrus is a region of the lateral frontal lobe that supports language, cognitive control, and goal-directed behavior, making it an important subject in neuroscience. It is divided into pars opercularis, pars triangularis, and pars orbitalis, which interact with motor, temporal, and parietal networks to select and produce speech, inhibit prepotent responses, and maintain task-relevant information. Functional imaging, lesion studies, and electrophysiological methods use this region to investigate language organization, response inhibition, working memory, and decision-making. Understanding inferior frontal gyrus function also informs research on aphasia, attention disorders, neurodevelopment, and recovery after brain injury.

Lateral Canthotomy and Inferior Cantholysis

2023

Source: James W Bonz, MD, Emergency Medicine, Yale School of Medicine, New Haven, Connecticut, USA Lateral canthotomy is a potentially eyesight-saving procedure when performed emergently for an orbital compartment syndrome. An orbital compartment syndrome results from a buildup of pressure behind the eye; as pressure mounts, both the optic nerve and its vascular supply are compressed, rapidly leading to nerve damage and blindness if the pressure is not quickly relieved. The medial and lateral...

We describe two methods for visualization and quantification of dendritic arborization in the hippocampus of mouse models: real-time and extended depth of field imaging. While the former method allows sophisticated topographical tracing and quantification of the extent of branching, the latter allows speedy visualization of the dendritic tree.

Long-term Potentiation of Perforant Pathway-dentate Gyrus Synapse in Freely Behaving Mice

Transgenic and knockout mouse models of neurological diseases are useful for studying the role of genes in normal and abnormal neurophysiology. This article describes methodologies which can be used to study long-term potentiation, a cellular mechanism which may underlie learning and memory, in transgenic and knockout freely behaving mouse models of neuropathology.
