Quantitative Behavioral Evaluation

Quantitative behavioral evaluation is the systematic measurement and analysis of observable behavior to identify reliable changes, individual differences, and relationships with brain function. In neuroscience, researchers operationalize behaviors using variables such as response accuracy, reaction time, movement, choice, frequency, or duration, then compare these measures across experimental conditions with statistical methods. This approach supports the assessment of learning, memory, decision-making, motivation, and sensorimotor performance in humans and animal models. By converting behavior into reproducible data, quantitative evaluation links neural activity or injury to functional outcomes and strengthens the interpretation of experiments, disease models, and interventions.

Quantitative Fundus Autofluorescence for the Evaluation of Retinal Diseases

The retinal pigment epithelium (RPE) supports the sensory retina through recycling visual cycle byproducts, which accumulate as lipofuscin. These products are autofluorescent and can be qualitatively imaged in vivo. Here, we describe a method to quantitatively image RPE lipofuscin using confocal scanning laser ophthalmoscopy.

The phagokinetic motility track assay is a method used to assess the movement of cells. Specifically, the assay measures chemokinesis (random cell motility) over time in a quantitative manner. The assay takes advantage of the ability of cells to create a measurable track of their movement on colloidal gold-coated coverslips.
