Leaf Margin

Leaf margin is the outer edge of a leaf blade, where features such as smooth, toothed, lobed, or serrated forms contribute to plant identification and ecological interpretation. Its shape develops through patterns of cell growth and tissue differentiation during leaf development, producing structures that can influence the leaf’s boundary layer, exposure to air movement, and interactions with herbivores. In environmental sciences, examining leaf margins supports plant taxonomy, biodiversity surveys, habitat assessment, and studies of how vegetation responds to climate, water availability, and other environmental conditions. Consistent margin traits can also aid field identification when flowers or fruits are absent.

Ethical dilemmas, such as the temptation to cheat on taxes, can result when these motives are in conflict. On...

Marginating-pulmonary leukocytes exhibit unique characteristics and distinct immunological functions compared to other leukocyte populations. Here we describe selective harvesting of this subpopulation of pulmonary leukocytes, by forced perfusion of the lungs in rats and mice. Marginating-pulmonary leukocytes seem critical in determining susceptibility to blood-borne and lung-related diseases.
