Igm Loss Analysis

IgM loss analysis is the assessment of reduced or absent immunoglobulin M production or detection, an important indicator of changes in early humoral immunity. It typically involves comparing IgM levels across samples or time points and interpreting loss in relation to B-cell maturation, class-switch recombination, impaired antibody production, or B-cell depletion. In immunology and infection research, this analysis helps characterize immune responses, evaluate disease-associated antibody changes, and distinguish transient alterations from persistent immunodeficiency. The results can support studies of pathogen exposure, vaccine responses, immune development, and disorders affecting antibody-mediated protection.

We describe here a method to generate customizable antigen microarrays that can be used for the simultaneous detection of serum IgG and IgM autoantibodies from humans and mice. These arrays allow for high-throughput and quantitative detection of antibodies against any antigens or epitopes of interest.

Alopecia is a common form of hair loss which can occur in many different conditions, including as a side-effect of chemotherapy. We have developed a method to quantify hair loss in mice, utilizing a standard gel imager to perform a grayscale analysis, to facilitate study of promising new alopecia therapies.

Line Loss

2024

The different configurations of source-load connections include wye (star) and delta connections. The relationship between line and phase voltages and currents varies depending on the configuration. When the source is supplying power, it is transmitted through the wires to the load, and during this transmission, some power is absorbed by the wires, leading to line loss. Line loss impacts power delivery efficiency in a balanced three-phase circuit. The symmetry in such a circuit simplifies the...

Piping Networks and Pressure Losses

Source: Alexander S Rattner, Department of Mechanical and Nuclear Engineering, The Pennsylvania State University, University Park, PA This experiment introduces the measurement and modeling of pressure losses in piping networks and internal flow systems. In such systems, frictional flow resistance from channel walls, fittings, and obstructions causes mechanical energy in the form of fluid pressure to be converted to heat. Engineering analyses are needed to size flow hardware to ensure...

Reducing Line Loss

2024

In a three-phase circuit, line loss is an indicator of energy dissipated as heat due to the resistance of transmission lines. To address this, incorporating transformers into the system—a step-up transformer at the source and a step-down transformer at the load—is a strategic solution. Two three-phase transformers are introduced to improve this. With a step-up transformer at the source, the voltage is increased, thereby reducing the current in the transmission lines since power loss in...
