Neonatal Mouse Gavage

Neonatal mouse gavage is a technique for delivering a measured substance directly into a newborn mouse’s stomach through a feeding tube, enabling controlled studies during early immune development. The procedure bypasses voluntary feeding by guiding the tube through the mouth and esophagus while limiting variation in dose and timing. In immunology and infection research, investigators use neonatal gavage to administer microbial preparations, pathogens, therapeutics, or experimental antigens and then assess intestinal colonization, mucosal immune responses, and disease outcomes. When performed with age-appropriate equipment and careful handling, this method supports reproducible studies of host-microbe interactions and early-life immunity.

Primary mouse cardiomyocyte cultures are one of the pivotal tools for the investigation of myofibrillar organization and function. The following protocol describes the isolation and culture of primary cardiomyocytes from neonatal mouse hearts. The resulting cardiomyocyte cultures may be subsequently used for a variety of biomechanical, biochemical and cell-biological assays.
