Polymethylmethacrylate Potting

Polymethylmethacrylate potting is a technique that embeds a medical specimen, implant, or tissue in cured polymethylmethacrylate (PMMA) resin to stabilize it for handling, sectioning, and analysis. Liquid methyl methacrylate monomer mixed with a polymerization initiator forms a rigid PMMA matrix, often under controlled temperature and curing conditions to limit heat-related changes in the embedded material. In medicine, potting supports examination of undecalcified bone, bone-implant interfaces, and orthopedic devices by preserving spatial relationships during microscopy, imaging, or mechanical testing. The method can reveal tissue integration, fixation quality, wear, and structural damage, making it valuable in pathology, biomaterials research, and implant evaluation.

2011

A facile, one-pot synthesis of N-succinimidyl-4-[18F]fluorobenzoate ([18F]SFB) was developed based on a non-aqueous, three-step radiochemical process. Using microwave heating, the entire procedure can be completed in less than 30 min, or 60 min with further purification by preparative HPLC. The decay-corrected radiochemical yields (RCYs) were 35-5% (n > 30).

2019

CO2 transformations are conducted in a one-pot two-step procedure for the synthesis of complex molecules. The selective 4 e- reduction of CO2 with a hydroborane reductant affords a reactive and versatile bis(boryl)acetal intermediate which is subsequently involved in condensation reaction or carbene-mediated C-C coupling generation.
