Sample Elution

Sample elution is a laboratory technique that removes target substances from a solid or immobilized sample matrix into a liquid phase for analysis. It works by applying a suitable solvent or buffer that weakens interactions between the analyte and the matrix, allowing the analyte to dissolve and move into the collected eluate. In medicine, sample elution supports the recovery of biomarkers, pharmaceuticals, proteins, and nucleic acids from materials such as extraction columns, membranes, and dried specimens. The resulting eluate can then undergo chromatography, immunoassays, or molecular testing, improving access to clinically relevant information for diagnosis, monitoring, and research.

High-Performance Liquid Chromatography: Elution Process

2024

In High-Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC), the elution process is critical to the separation of analytes and the quality of chromatographic results. Elution describes how compounds move through the column and separate based on their interactions with the mobile and stationary phases. This process determines the resolution, peak shape, and retention times in the chromatogram, which are essential for identifying and quantifying components in complex mixtures. Understanding the elution...

Here, we present a protocol to evaluate the antibacterial efficacy of an antibiotic-eluting polymer to simulate prophylactic clinical application by using a commercially available real-time ATP-based luminescent microbial viability assay. This method enables the monitoring of the longitudinal activity of drug-eluting materials and can be widely adapted to test anti-microbial drug delivery platforms.

Design of a Biocompatible Drug-Eluting Tracheal Stent in Mice with Laryngotracheal Stenosis

Laryngotracheal stenosis results from pathologic scar deposition that critically narrows the tracheal airway and lacks effective medical therapies. Using a PLLA-PCL (70% poly-L-lactide and 30% polycaprolactone) stent as a local drug delivery system, potential therapies aimed at decreasing scar proliferation in the trachea can be studied.
