Icp Waveform

An intracranial pressure (ICP) waveform is a graphical representation of pressure changes within the skull over time, helping clinicians assess brain compliance and intracranial dynamics. Each cardiac cycle typically produces three components: the percussion wave (P1) from arterial pulsation, the tidal wave (P2) influenced by brain and cerebrospinal fluid compliance, and the dicrotic wave (P3) associated with aortic valve closure; increasing P2 relative to P1 can indicate reduced compliance. In medicine, ICP waveform analysis supports monitoring of traumatic brain injury, hydrocephalus, cerebral edema, and other conditions where pressure elevation threatens cerebral perfusion and neurological function.

Effective Value of a Periodic Waveform

2024

The concept of effective value, the root mean square (RMS) value, is crucial in understanding electrical circuits and power delivery. This idea emerges from the necessity to measure the effectiveness of a voltage or current source in supplying power to a resistive load. The effective value of a periodic current represents the direct current (DC) that conveys the same average power to a resistor as the periodic current itself. This concept is crucial when assessing AC circuits. To determine the...

Inductively Coupled Plasma-Mass Spectrometry (ICP-MS): Interferences

2024

Inductively coupled plasma–mass spectrometry (ICP–MS) is a highly selective and sensitive technique for accurate elemental analysis. Though the analysis of ICP–MS mass spectra is comparatively straightforward, it is affected by spectroscopic and non-spectroscopic interferences. Spectroscopic interferences arise when the plasma contains ionic species with an m/z value the same as the analyte ion. Spectroscopic interference can be categorized as isobaric, polyatomic ions, and refractory oxide ion...

Inductively Coupled Plasma–Mass Spectrometry (ICP–MS): Overview

2024

In inductively coupled plasma–mass spectrometry (ICP–MS), an inductively coupled plasma (ICP) torch is used as an atomizer and ionizer. Solid samples are dissolved and volatilized before being introduced into the high-temperature argon plasma, while solution samples are nebulized and passed through the high-temperature argon plasma. Plasma dissociates the analytes and ionizes their component atoms to form a mixture of positive ions and molecular species. The positive ions are then passed on to...

Size exclusion chromatography hyphenated with inductively coupled plasma - mass spectrometry (ICP-MS) is a powerful tool to measure changes in the abundance of metalloproteins directly from biological samples. Here we describe a set of metalloprotein standards used to estimate molecular mass and the amount of metal associated with unknown proteins.

This article describes the semi-automated measurement of the amplitudes and latencies of the first five peaks and troughs in the auditory brainstem response waveform. An additional routine compiles and annotates the data into a spreadsheet for experimenter analysis. These free computer routines are executed using the open-source statistical package R.
