Dissecting Microscope Surgery

Dissecting microscope surgery is a microsurgical approach that uses a stereoscopic, binocular microscope to enlarge and illuminate small anatomical structures during an operation. Its paired optical paths provide magnification, depth perception, and a wide working field, allowing surgeons to manipulate delicate tissue with fine instruments while maintaining visual control. In neuroscience, this method supports precise procedures in experimental animals and clinical research, including access to the brain, implantation of recording or stimulation devices, and microsurgical repair of neural pathways. By reducing unintended tissue disturbance and improving procedural accuracy, it helps researchers investigate circuit function, disease mechanisms, and potential therapies.
