Temporal Artery Biopsy

Temporal artery biopsy is a diagnostic procedure that removes a small segment of the temporal artery to examine it for vascular inflammation, particularly when giant cell arteritis is suspected. During the procedure, clinicians excise the artery under local anesthesia, preserve the specimen, and use histopathology to identify features such as granulomatous inflammation, multinucleated giant cells, and disruption of the vessel wall. In immunology and infection research, the biopsy provides direct tissue evidence of an immune-mediated vasculitis and helps distinguish it from other causes of headache or arterial injury. Results can guide timely treatment and reduce the risk of serious complications, including vision loss.

Here is a stepwise guide to assessing the body temperature at the temporal artery using a temporal artery thermometer Step 1: Perform hand hygiene and don a fresh pair of gloves to prevent cross-infection and ensure patient safety. Step 2: Explain the procedure to the patient to establish trust. Clear communication establishes trust with the patient, ensures they understand what to expect, promotes cooperation, and enhances comfort during the procedure. Step 3: Assess the patient's forehead...

Blood pressure monitoring is one of the essential vital signs, and for a majority of patients, measuring it utilizing non-invasive techniques provides accurate values. However, there are situations in which the blood pressure requires more exact, specific, and reliable measurements.
