Donor Spleen Cell Migration

Donor spleen cell migration is the movement and tissue distribution of immune cells originating from a donor spleen, a process relevant to transplantation and immune-system research. After transfer or transplantation, these cells enter the recipient’s circulation and respond to chemokine gradients, adhesion molecules, and tissue-specific signals that guide their movement into lymphoid organs and other tissues. Tracking donor-derived cells helps researchers evaluate immune reconstitution, graft-host interactions, tolerance, and rejection. Migration studies can also clarify how transferred lymphocytes contribute to immune function or pathology, supporting the development of transplantation strategies and experimental models of immune regulation.

A Mouse Model of Vascularized Heterotopic Spleen Transplantation

2025

The video demonstrates a surgical method for generating a mouse model of vascularized heterotopic spleen transplantation. The abdominal cavity of an anesthetized donor mouse is surgically opened to remove the spleen. The inferior vena cava and infrarenal aorta are identified, their lumbar branches are ligated, and openings are made for the heterotopic transplantation of a spleen from a congenic donor mouse. Upon completing vascular anastomosis and restoring blood flow to the implanted spleen,...

An Introduction to Cell Motility and Migration

2023

Cell motility and migration play important roles in both normal biology and in disease. On one hand, migration allows cells to generate complex tissues and organs during development, but on the other hand, the same mechanisms are used by tumor cells to move and spread in a process known as cancer metastasis. One of the primary cellular machineries that make cell movement possible is an intracellular network of myosin and actin molecules, together known as “actomyosin”, which creates a...
