Pacing Rate Analysis

Pacing rate analysis is the systematic evaluation of how often an implanted or external cardiac pacemaker delivers electrical stimuli and how that rate shapes the patient’s heart rhythm. It combines device-programming data with electrocardiographic or telemetry measurements to examine pacing intervals, intrinsic cardiac activity, sensing, and the relationship between programmed limits and observed ventricular or atrial rates. Clinicians use this analysis to identify inappropriate pacing, failure to capture or sense, and rate responses that may not meet physiologic needs. The findings support pacemaker optimization, troubleshooting, rhythm assessment, and safer follow-up for patients with conduction disorders.

Measurement and Analysis of Extracellular Acid Production to Determine Glycolytic Rate

Glycolysis is a defining metabolic marker in multiple biological systems. Monitoring glycolysis by measuring the extracellular flux of H+ is common, but requires correction to be quantitative and unambiguous. Here, we demonstrate how to gather and correct extracellular flux data to distinguish between respiratory and glycolytic sources of extracellular acidification.

Reaction Rate

The rate of reaction is the change in the amount of a reactant or product per unit time. Reaction rates are therefore determined by measuring the time dependence of some property that can be related to reactant or product amounts. Rates of reactions that consume or produce gaseous substances, for example, are conveniently determined by measuring changes in volume or pressure. The mathematical representation of the change in the concentration of reactants and products, over time, is the rate...

When two or more physical quantities are linked by a single relationship, a change in one variable necessarily affects the others. This interdependence forms the basis of related rates analysis, which examines how different quantities change with respect to time. A classic physical example is an expanding balloon, where the size of the balloon changes continuously as air is added. For a hot air balloon, the inflated envelope is commonly idealized as a perfect sphere to simplify mathematical...
