Star Cancellation Test

The Star Cancellation Test is a brief neuropsychological screening measure of visual attention and visuospatial awareness, commonly used to detect unilateral spatial neglect after brain injury or stroke. During testing, a person scans a page containing small target stars mixed with larger stars, letters, and words, marking each target; omissions, especially on one side, reveal impaired spatial exploration and are interpreted alongside overall accuracy and completion time. In medicine, the test supports bedside assessment of attention, helps characterize cognitive and perceptual deficits, and can inform rehabilitation planning and monitoring, although it is a screening tool rather than a standalone diagnosis.

Poly(ethylene glycol) (PEG) brush-arm star polymers (BASPs) with narrow mass distributions and tunable nanoscopic sizes are synthesized in via ring opening metathesis polymerization (ROMP) of a PEG-norbornene macromonomer followed by transfer of portions of the resulting living brush initiator to vials containing varied amounts of a rigid, photo-cleavable bis-norbornene crosslinker.

High-Speed Atomic Force Microscopy Imaging of DNA Three-Point-Star Motif Self Assembly Using Photothermal Off-Resonance Tapping

We discussed the synthesis of individual graphitic nanocups using a series of techniques including chemical vapor deposition, acid oxidation and probe-tip sonication. By citrate reduction of HAuCl4, the graphitic nanocups were effectively corked with gold nanoparticles due to the chemically reactive edges of the cups.

An efficient way to gain insight into how humans navigate themselves in three dimensions is described. The method takes advantage of a motion simulator capable of moving observers in ways unattainable by traditional simulators. Results confirm that movement in the horizontal plane is underestimated, while vertical movement is overestimated.
