Evoked Epscs Assessment

Evoked EPSCs assessment is an electrophysiological method for measuring excitatory synaptic transmission by recording postsynaptic currents triggered by controlled stimulation of presynaptic neurons or axons. Under voltage-clamp conditions, stimulation causes neurotransmitter release, typically activating ionotropic glutamate receptors and producing a measurable inward current whose amplitude and timing reflect synaptic function. Researchers use evoked EPSCs to evaluate synaptic strength, presynaptic release properties, receptor contributions, and activity-dependent plasticity in neural circuits. The approach supports studies of neuronal connectivity, learning and memory, neurodevelopment, and disease-related changes in excitatory signaling.

2016

Zebrafish are an excellent model to study muscle function and disease. During early embryogenesis zebrafish begin regular muscle contractions producing rhythmic swimming behavior, which is altered when the muscle is disrupted. Here we describe a touch-evoked response and locomotion assay to examine swimming performance as a measure of muscle function.

2021

A portable system capable of measuring steady-state visual-evoked potentials was developed and trialed on 65 amateur rugby players over 18 weeks to investigate SSVEP as a potential electrophysiological biomarker for concussion. Players' baselines were measured pre-season, with retesting for reliability, concussion, and recovery assessment being conducted within controlled time-periods, respectively.

Recording of Electroretinogram and Visual Evoked Potential in a Rat

2025

This video demonstrates how to record electroretinogram (ERG) and visual evoked potential (VEP) in a conscious rat. The rat, with surgically implanted electrodes, is first dark-adapted. After applying dilating drops, the animal is placed in a restrainer and positioned in a Ganzfeld bowl. The ERG and VEP signals are then recorded.

Evoked Gamma Oscillations for the Treatment of Alzheimer’s Disease
