Neuronal Function Analysis

Neuronal function analysis is the systematic study of how neurons generate, transmit, and modify signals, providing a foundation for understanding nervous-system activity in health and disease. Researchers examine electrical excitability, synaptic transmission, calcium dynamics, and responses to defined stimuli using approaches such as patch-clamp electrophysiology, imaging, and computational analysis. By linking membrane potentials and action potentials to neurotransmitter release, network activity, and behavior, these measurements reveal how individual cells communicate within neural circuits. The resulting data support research on development, learning and memory, sensory processing, and neurological disorders, while helping evaluate disease mechanisms and potential therapeutic interventions.

Cell Subtype-specific Analysis of Neuronal Membrane Proteasome in Somatosensory Neurons

2025

The neuronal membrane proteasome (NMP) was recently identified in a subset of somatosensory neurons as a key regulator of touch, pain, and itch perception. This article presents a robust workflow for analyzing cell-type-specific NMP expression and function using cell sorting, transcriptome profiling, and culture-based immunofluorescent analyses.

Analyzing the physiological properties of olfactory sensory neurons still faces technical limitations. Here we record them through perforated patch-clamp in an intact preparation of the olfactory epithelium in gene-targeted mice. This technique allows the characterization of membrane properties and responses to specific ligands of neurons expressing defined olfactory receptors.
