Functional Mri Image

Functional MRI (fMRI) images are maps of brain activity that infer neural function from localized changes in blood flow and oxygenation, complementing structural scans that show anatomy. During a task or resting-state acquisition, blood-oxygen-level-dependent (BOLD) contrast detects changes in deoxyhemoglobin that alter the MR signal, allowing researchers to estimate activity across brain regions over time. In neuroscience, these images help relate cognition, sensation, behavior, and disease to functional brain networks while supporting studies of connectivity, brain organization, and responses to interventions.

Simultaneous PET/MRI Imaging During Mouse Cerebral Hypoxia-ischemia

The method presented here uses simultaneous positron emission tomography and magnetic resonance imaging. In the cerebral hypoxia-ischemia model, dynamic changes in diffusion and glucose metabolism occur during and after injury. The evolving and irreproducible damage in this model necessitates simultaneous acquisition if meaningful multi-modal imaging data are to be acquired.

This article shows an optimized procedure for imaging of the neural substrates of auditory stimulation in the songbird brain using functional Magnetic Resonance Imaging (fMRI). It describes the preparation of the sound stimuli, the positioning of the subject and the acquisition and subsequent analysis of the fMRI data.

Functional Neuroimaging Using Ultrasonic Blood-brain Barrier Disruption and Manganese-enhanced MRI

A technique is described for broadly opening the blood-brain barrier in the mouse using microbubbles and ultrasound. Using this technique, manganese can be administered to the mouse brain. Because manganese is an MRI contrast agent that accumulates in depolarized neurons, this approach enables imaging of neuronal activity.

fMRI: Functional Magnetic Resonance Imaging

2023

Functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) is a non-invasive neuroimaging technique used to investigate human brain function and cognition in both healthy individuals and populations with abnormal brain states. Functional MRI utilizes a magnetic resonance signal to detect changes in blood flow that are coupled to neuronal activation when a specific task is performed. This is possible because hemoglobin within the blood has different magnetic properties depending on whether or not it is bound...
