Cancer Research

Cancer research is the systematic study of how cancers arise, develop, spread, and respond to prevention and treatment strategies. It examines how genetic and epigenetic alterations disrupt normal control of cell growth, survival, and tissue organization, using approaches such as molecular profiling, cell and animal models, and clinical studies. Findings support earlier detection, risk assessment, targeted and immune-based therapies, and more precise treatment selection. By connecting fundamental biology with clinical evidence, cancer research improves understanding of tumor behavior and helps translate laboratory discoveries into interventions that can reduce cancer incidence, extend survival, and improve quality of life.

Ovarian cancer metastasis is characterized by numerous diffuse intra-peritoneal lesions, such that accurate visual quantitation of tumor burden is challenging. Herein we describe a method for in situ and ex vivo quantitation of metastatic tumor burden using red fluorescent protein (RFP)-labeled tumor cells and optical imaging.

2015

Pancreatic cancer stem cells (CSCs) can be expanded in vitro using the anchorage-independent sphere culture technique, which represents a powerful tool to study CSC biology and can serve as the first step to develop novel CSC-targeting therapies. Here the methodology for expanding, analyzing and targeting of pancreatic CSCs is provided.
