Global Quality Score

Global Quality Score is a structured rating used in medicine to judge the overall quality and usefulness of health information, clinical resources, or medical content. An evaluator considers factors such as organization, clarity, completeness, ease of use, and apparent reliability, then assigns a standardized overall score, commonly on a five-point scale ranging from poor to excellent. This approach provides a practical summary of complex quality characteristics and supports comparisons among patient-education materials, medical websites, clinical resources, and other health information. Researchers and educators use it to identify strengths, reveal communication gaps, and guide improvements in the presentation of medically relevant content.

Introduction to z Scores

2023

A z score (or standardized value) is measured in units of the standard deviation. It tells you how many standard deviations the value x is above (to the right of) or below (to the left of) the mean, μ. Values of x that are larger than the mean have positive z scores, and values of x that are smaller than the mean have negative z scores. If x equals the mean, then x has a zero z score. It is important to note that the mean of the z scores is zero, and the standard deviation is one. z scores help...

In this article, we demonstrate assays to study thermal nociception in Drosophila larvae. One assay involves spatially-restricted (local) stimulation of thermal nociceptors1,2 while the second involves a wholesale (global) activation of most or all such neurons3. Together, these techniques allow visualization and quantification of the behavioral functions of Drosophila nociceptive sensory neurons.
