Multi-gene Detection

Multi-gene detection is the simultaneous identification or measurement of several genes, genetic variants, or gene-expression signals in a biological sample, enabling a broader view of disease than single-target testing. Depending on the assay, primers, probes, or sequencing workflows capture multiple genomic targets in parallel, and computational analysis distinguishes their signals to produce a combined molecular profile. In medicine, this approach supports hereditary disease screening, cancer profiling, infectious-disease characterization, and treatment selection. By revealing interacting alterations and heterogeneous disease signatures, multi-gene detection can improve diagnostic resolution and inform more individualized clinical decisions.

Source: Domesle, K. J., et al. Loop-Mediated Isothermal Amplification for Screening Salmonella in Animal Food and Confirming Salmonella from Culture Isolation. J. Vis. Exp. (2020).This video demonstrates the loop-mediated isothermal amplification (LAMP) technique for detecting a target bacterial gene by amplifying DNA at a constant temperature. The reaction mixture is prepared by adding an isothermal master mix, specific primers for the target gene, and samples containing DNA templates. The...
