Paw Withdrawal Latency

Paw withdrawal latency is the time between applying a controlled sensory stimulus to an animal’s paw and its reflexive withdrawal, making it a widely used behavioral measure of nociception and pain sensitivity in neuroscience. Thermal or mechanical stimulation activates peripheral nociceptors, which transmit signals through sensory neurons to spinal reflex circuits and produce a rapid motor response that can be timed. Researchers compare latency values across experimental conditions to assess hyperalgesia, analgesic effects, and changes in sensory processing. This assay helps link neural mechanisms of pain to behavioral outcomes and supports preclinical evaluation of pain-relieving treatments.

Source: Kay Stewart, RVT, RLATG, CMAR; Valerie A. Schroeder, RVT, RLATG. University of Notre Dame, IN Blood collection is a common requirement for research studies that involve mice and rats. The method of blood withdrawal in mice and rats is dependent upon the volume of blood needed, the frequency of the sampling, the health status of the animal to be bled, and the skill level of the technician. All methods discussed-retro-orbital sinus bleeds, initial tail snip bleeds, and intracardiac...

Source: Kay Stewart, RVT, RLATG, CMAR; Valerie A. Schroeder, RVT, RLATG. University of Notre Dame, IN The collection of blood from mice and rats for analysis can be done through a variety of methods. Each method of collection has variations in the type of restraint required, the invasiveness of the procedure, and the necessity of a general anesthetic.1Historically, the use of the retro-orbital sinus cavity has been used, but not without debate. The controversy related to the potential tissue...

Electronic von Frey measurements are an effective and improved alternative to classical von Frey filaments, as they allow rapid and precise measurement of changes in rodent mechanical withdrawal thresholds to continuously applied pressure stimuli before and after an inflammatory event.

Paw-Dragging: a Novel, Sensitive Analysis of the Mouse Cylinder Test

Classical forelimb asymmetry analysis of the cylinder test is routinely used to assess behavioural deficits in rats following brain injury or stroke; however, it fails to detect consistent deficits in mice. This study demonstrates that quantifying paw-dragging behaviour is a more sensitive analysis of brain injury in mice.

Withdrawal of a Partner

2026

A partner's withdrawal from a partnership signifies a significant change in the firm's composition, typically occurring due to voluntary retirement, health concerns, or other personal decisions. This event necessitates several accounting adjustments to ensure a fair settlement for the departing partner while maintaining the equity of continuing partners. The process involves determining the partner’s final capital balance by adjusting for their share in accumulated profits, reserves,...
