Water Deficit

Water deficit is a condition in which water availability falls below an organism’s physiological demand, disrupting cellular function and growth. In plants, reduced soil moisture lowers water potential, limits root uptake, decreases cell turgor, and triggers abscisic acid signaling that promotes stomatal closure and stress-response gene expression. In bioengineering, controlled water-deficit experiments help researchers measure plant tolerance, identify protective traits, and design crops or irrigation strategies that maintain productivity under drought. These studies also support engineered systems for monitoring soil moisture, modeling plant water use, and linking molecular responses to whole-plant performance.

2025

Attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is a neurodevelopmental disorder characterized by persistent inattention, hyperactivity, and impulsivity. It affects approximately 5-8% of children globally, with around 60-70% of cases persisting into adulthood. ADHD has significant implications for educational attainment, social interactions, and occupational success. Diagnostic Criteria and Symptoms To diagnose ADHD, symptoms must manifest before age 12 and be evident across multiple settings.
