Fluorescent Virus Labeling

Fluorescent virus labeling is a technique that marks viral particles or infected cells with fluorescent signals, enabling researchers to visualize and quantify viral behavior in biological systems. Labels can be introduced by genetically fusing a fluorescent protein to a viral component or by attaching fluorescent dyes or antibodies to virions, after which emitted light is detected using fluorescence microscopy or flow cytometry. In biology, this approach helps track virus entry, intracellular movement, replication, and spread, while supporting studies of host–virus interactions, antiviral responses, and infection dynamics. Labeled viruses also provide measurable tools for comparing viral variants and evaluating potential treatments.
