Lidocaine Injection

Lidocaine injection is a medication-based intervention that produces temporary loss of sensation and, in some clinical settings, treats certain ventricular cardiac arrhythmias. As a local anesthetic, lidocaine diffuses into excitable tissues and blocks voltage-gated sodium channels, preventing sodium influx and the propagation of action potentials along sensory nerves. Clinicians administer it by local infiltration or nerve block for procedures such as wound repair, minor surgery, and dental treatment, while carefully considering dose, injection site, and patient factors. Its rapid onset and reversible effects make lidocaine injection important in procedural anesthesia and selected emergency cardiovascular care.

Intra-articular Shoulder Injection for Reduction Following Shoulder Dislocation

2023

Source: Rachel Liu, BAO, MBBCh, Emergency Medicine, Yale School of Medicine, New Haven, Connecticut, USA The anterior shoulder dislocation is one of the most common joint dislocations seen in emergency settings. In anterior shoulder dislocation, the humeral head is displaced out of the glenohumeral joint in front of the scapular glenoid, resulting in a loss of the articulation between the arm and the rest of the shoulder. This can be caused by a fall onto an abducted, extended, and externally...

The CRISPR/Cas9 system offers the potential to make targeted genome editing accessible and affordable to the scientific community. This protocol is intended to demonstrate how to create viruses that will knockout a gene of interest using the CRISPR/Cas9 system, and then inject them stereotaxically into the adult mouse brain.

Direct injection into the rat optic nerve is useful for regenerative research. We demonstrate a minimally-invasive technique for direct injection into a rat optic nerve that does not involve opening the skull. Using this method, surgical complications are minimized and recovery is more rapid.

Preparation of an Awake Mouse for Recording Neural Responses and Injecting Tracers

Electrophysiological characterization of neuronal responses is important for understanding brain function and for guiding the placement of dyes for pathway tracing. However, many studies are performed in anesthetized animals. To understand brain function without anesthetics, we developed a method to record neuronal response properties and inject dyes in awake mouse.
