Organoid Medium Supplementation

Organoid medium supplementation is the controlled addition of nutrients, growth factors, signaling modulators, and other defined components to culture media to support the formation and maintenance of three-dimensional, tissue-like cell models. By adjusting the concentration and timing of these supplements, researchers regulate pathways that govern stem cell survival, proliferation, lineage specification, and self-organization, thereby shaping organoid growth and cellular composition. In genetics, this approach helps maintain patient- or mutation-derived organoids, reveal how variants alter development or tissue function, and create reproducible systems for gene perturbation and disease modeling. Careful optimization improves experimental consistency and strengthens links between genotype and phenotype.
