Tubing Docking Device

A tubing docking device is a laboratory or bioprocessing tool that joins flexible tubing to create a continuous fluid pathway while helping maintain a closed, contamination-controlled system. It aligns tubing ends and forms a secure connection, allowing liquids to move between containers, instruments, or processing units with minimal exposure to the surrounding environment. In immunology and infection research, this capability supports the controlled handling of cell cultures, biological samples, media, and assay reagents. By reducing open transfers and potential contamination, tubing docking devices improve workflow consistency, protect sample integrity, and support reproducible experimental and bioprocessing procedures.

Pitot-static Tube: A Device to Measure Air Flow Speed

2023

Source: David Guo, College of Engineering, Technology, and Aeronautics (CETA), Southern New Hampshire University (SNHU), Manchester, New Hampshire A Pitot-static tube is widely used for measuring unknown speeds in air flow, for example, it is used to measure airplane airspeed. By Bernoulli's principle, airspeed is directly related to variations in pressure. Therefore, the Pitot-static tube senses the stagnation pressure and static pressure. It is connected to a manometer or pressure transducer...

Tube Thoracostomy

Source: Rachel Liu, BAO, MBBCh, Emergency Medicine, Yale School of Medicine, New Haven, Connecticut, USA Tube thoracostomy (chest tube placement) is a procedure during which a hollow tube is inserted into the thoracic cavity for drainage of fluid or air. Emergency chest tube insertion is performed for definitive treatment of tension pneumothorax, traumatic hemothorax, large-volume pleural effusions, and empyemas. Irrespective of the cause of air and fluid accumulation in the pleural space, the...

The uterine or fallopian tubes function as the conduit through which oocytes travel from the ovaries to the uterus. Each fallopian tube measures approximately 10 to 13 cm long and is anatomically divided into the infundibulum, ampulla, isthmus, and interstitial part (or intramural segment). The infundibulum is characterized by its funnel shape and features extensions called fimbriae which reach towards the peritoneal cavity. These fimbriae play a critical role during ovulation as they extend...
