3d Tumor Spheroid

A 3D tumor spheroid is a three-dimensional cluster of cancer cells grown in vitro to model key features of solid tumors more realistically than conventional two-dimensional cultures. Cells aggregate and organize through cell-cell adhesion, creating spatial gradients of oxygen, nutrients, and waste that can produce distinct proliferative, quiescent, and sometimes necrotic regions. In medicine and cancer research, tumor spheroids support studies of tumor growth, invasion, drug penetration, and treatment response under controlled laboratory conditions. They can help researchers evaluate anticancer therapies and investigate how the tumor microenvironment influences disease behavior, while providing a practical bridge between cell-based experiments and more complex models.
