Epidural Hematoma

Epidural hematoma is a collection of blood between the dura mater and the skull, usually caused by traumatic head injury, and it matters because rapid expansion can compress the brain and become fatal. In the common intracranial form, a temporal bone fracture may tear the middle meningeal artery, producing a lens-shaped hemorrhage that can enlarge after an initially brief period of preserved consciousness. Recognition relies on neurological assessment and noncontrast computed tomography, while urgent neurosurgical evacuation, often by craniotomy, can relieve mass effect and prevent herniation. Understanding this emergency supports timely triage, treatment, and outcome prediction in medicine.

Non-restraining EEG radiotelemetry is a valuable methodological approach to record in vivo long-term electroencephalograms from freely moving rodents. This detailed protocol describes stereotaxic epidural and deep intracerebral electrode placement in different brain regions in order to obtain reliable recordings of CNS rhythmicity and CNS related behavioral stages.

Epidural Intracranial Pressure Measurement in Rats Using a Fiber-optic Pressure Transducer

A novel technique to record the pressures within the skull is described. The minimally invasive method uses a fibre-optic pressure sensing system to accurately measure intracranial pressure (ICP) in anaesthetized rats without causing significant brain trauma. The technique may be used in a wide range of experimental models.

Local Anesthetics: Clinical Application as Epidural Anesthesia

2023

Epidural anesthetics are administered in the fat-filled epidural space, the outermost part of the spinal canal. This technique is commonly employed for pain management and anesthesia during lower abdomen and pelvis surgeries or labor and delivery. Since epidural anesthetics can be infused through an epidural catheter, all types of drugs, including short-acting ones, can be administered. Chloroprocaine and lidocaine are examples of short and long-duration anesthetics, respectively. Bupivacaine...

Embryo Transfer Into Rabbit: A Procedure for Laparoscopy-Guided Transfer of Embryos Into Oviduct of Ovulating Recipient Female Rabbit Model

2025

This video describes the technique of transferring embryos into the oviduct of a recipient female rabbit via Laparoscopy. It allows embryo remodeling in rabbits during its migration through the oviduct, eventually helping in successful implantation. This technique can also be used for stored embryos with good efficiency.
