Fluorescent Nanoparticles

Fluorescent nanoparticles are nanoscale materials that emit light after excitation, providing bright, tunable signals for visualizing biological structures and processes. Their fluorescence arises from components such as semiconductor quantum dots, fluorescent dyes, or doped inorganic materials, while surface functionalization can improve water dispersibility and target specific cells or biomolecules. In medicine, these particles support high-contrast imaging, biomarker detection, cell tracking, and the monitoring of drug delivery. Their size, optical stability, and modifiable surfaces can enhance sensitivity and enable multiplexed measurements, although toxicity, tissue penetration, and clearance remain important considerations for clinical translation.
