Gadolinium-enhanced Mri

Gadolinium-enhanced MRI is a magnetic resonance imaging technique that uses a gadolinium-based contrast agent to increase the visibility of tissues, blood vessels, and abnormalities that may be difficult to distinguish on unenhanced scans. After intravenous administration, the agent changes nearby proton relaxation, particularly shortening T1 relaxation time, so regions receiving or retaining contrast appear brighter on T1-weighted images; enhancement commonly reflects blood flow, vascularity, or disruption of the blood-brain barrier. Clinicians use this method to characterize tumors, inflammation, infection, vascular disease, and organ damage, supporting diagnosis, treatment planning, and assessment of disease response while requiring attention to renal function and contrast safety.

Functional Neuroimaging Using Ultrasonic Blood-brain Barrier Disruption and Manganese-enhanced MRI

2012

A technique is described for broadly opening the blood-brain barrier in the mouse using microbubbles and ultrasound. Using this technique, manganese can be administered to the mouse brain. Because manganese is an MRI contrast agent that accumulates in depolarized neurons, this approach enables imaging of neuronal activity.

An Aptamer-based Sensor for Unchelated Gadolinium(III)

2017

The use of polydeoxynucleotide (44-mer aptamer) molecules for sensing unchelated gadolinium(III) ion in an aqueous solution is described. The presence of the ion is detected via an increase in the fluorescence emission of the sensor.

This video illustrates a method, using a clinical 3 T scanner, for contrast-enhanced MR imaging of the naïve mouse visual projection and for repetitive and longitudinal in vivo studies of optic nerve degeneration associated with acute optic nerve crush injury and chronic optic nerve degeneration in knock-out mice (p50KO).

DCE-MRI of Orthotopic Pancreatic Tumor Xenografts: A Method to Assess Microvasculature in a Target Tumor Tissue

2023

This video describes the technique of DCE-MRI for orthotropic pancreatic tumor xenografts in mice. DCE-MRI is a non-invasive method to analyze microvasculature in a target tissue, and useful to assess vascular response in a tumor following a novel therapy. This method will assist investigators to apply DCE-MRI for orthotopic gastrointestinal cancer mouse models.
