Graft Fixation Sutures

Graft fixation sutures are surgical threads used to secure transplanted tissue or replacement grafts in the intended anatomical position during healing. They work by passing through the graft and surrounding tissue or bone, creating stable mechanical contact that limits displacement while biological integration develops; suture material, needle design, placement pattern, and tissue strength influence fixation. In medicine, these sutures support procedures such as ligament reconstruction, tendon repair, skin grafting, and vascular or soft-tissue reconstruction. Proper fixation can promote graft incorporation, preserve alignment, and reduce complications related to loosening, migration, or excessive tension, making suture selection and technique important factors in surgical outcomes.

Iris Fixation via External Pentagram Suturing

2022

The present protocol describes how a 10-0 polypropylene suture crosses the anterior surface of the iris, forming a pentagram to prevent both iris and pupil from moving toward the cornea. This can be combined with subsequent keratoplasty to cure bullous keratopathy with extensive anterior synechia of the iris.

We describe protocols for our mouse graft arteriosclerois (GA) models which involve interposition of a mouse vessel segment into a recipient of the same inbred strain. By backcrossing additional genetic changes into the vessel donor, the model can assess the effect of specific genes on GA.

A Novel Tenorrhaphy Suture Technique with Tissue Engineered Collagen Graft to Repair Large Tendon Defects

In this paper, we present an in vitro and in situ protocol to repair a tendon gap of up to 1.5 cm by filling it with engineered collagen graft. This was performed by developing a modified suture technique to take the mechanical load until the graft matures into the host tissue.

Here, we present a protocol to generate tissue engineered vessel grafts that are functional for grafting into mice by double seeding partially induced pluripotent stem cell (PiPSC) - derived smooth muscle cells and PiPSC - derived endothelial cells on a decellularized vessel scaffold bioreactor.
