Organ Function Support

Organ function support refers to medical interventions that maintain, supplement, or temporarily replace the activity of a failing or impaired organ, helping preserve physiological stability. These approaches work by restoring essential functions such as gas exchange, blood filtration, circulation, fluid balance, or metabolic regulation through devices, medications, or specialized therapies. In medicine, organ function support can stabilize critically ill patients, provide time for recovery, and bridge patients to transplantation or longer-term treatment. Understanding its mechanisms also guides decisions about monitoring, treatment intensity, complications, and the development of safer technologies for personalized care.

2012

We present the high-temperature synthesis of intermetallic precursors K4Ge9, their dissolution in ethylenediamine to form Ge94- deltahedral Zintl ions, and the reaction of the clusters with alkynes to form organo-Zintl ions. The latter are characterized by electrospray mass spectrometry in solutions and by single-crystal X-ray diffraction in the solid state.

Self-Help Support Groups

2025

Self-help support groups are voluntary, community-based organizations that provide a platform for individuals with shared concerns to exchange support, insights, and practical strategies for coping with life challenges. Typically led by group members or paraprofessionals, these groups form a cornerstone of mental health care, especially in reaching populations that are underserved by traditional healthcare systems. Accessibility and Cost-Effectiveness One of the primary strengths of self-help...

Synthesis and Characterization of Functionalized Metal-organic Frameworks

2014

Synthesis, activation, and characterization of intentionally designed metal-organic framework materials is challenging, especially when building blocks are incompatible or unwanted polymorphs are thermodynamically favored over desired forms. We describe how applications of solvent-assisted linker exchange, powder X-ray diffraction in capillaries and activation via supercritical CO2 drying, can address some of these challenges.

Organic Compounds

2020

All living things are formed mostly of carbon compounds called organic compounds. The category of organic compounds includes both natural and synthetic compounds that contain carbon. Although a single, precise definition has yet to be identified by the chemistry community, most agree that a defining trait of organic molecules is the presence of carbon as the principal element, bonded to hydrogen and other carbon atoms. However, some carbon-containing compounds such as carbonates, cyanides, and...
