Mouse Visual Cortex

Mouse visual cortex is the network of cortical regions that receives and interprets visual information in mice, making it a useful model for studying how neural circuits generate perception and behavior. Light activates retinal photoreceptors, and signals travel through the lateral geniculate nucleus to visual cortical areas, where layered neurons transform them through synaptic connections and recurrent activity into representations of features such as orientation, motion, and contrast. Neuroscience researchers use mouse visual cortex to investigate sensory processing, cortical organization, learning, and plasticity with electrophysiology, imaging, and genetic tools. Findings help link cellular mechanisms to circuit function and inform broader principles of brain computation.

Isolation of Microglia from the Cortex of an Adult Mouse Brain

2025

The video demonstrates a technique for isolating microglia from the cortex of an adult mouse brain. First, the cortex undergoes segmentation and homogenization to remove neurons and other glial cells, preserving microglia. Following that, the cell suspension is exposed to anti-myelin magnetic microbeads and a magnetic field, effectively separating microglia and myeloid cells from myelin debris and cells containing myelin.
