Cell Panning

Cell panning is a selection technique that isolates cells or cell-binding molecules based on their ability to recognize and attach to a target cell or surface. In a typical procedure, a cell suspension or phage-displayed library is incubated with immobilized target cells, while unbound material is removed through washing and specifically bound cells or clones are recovered for further analysis or enrichment. In immunology and infection research, cell panning can identify immune-cell populations, antibodies, or ligands that recognize pathogen-infected cells or disease-associated surface markers. These enriched reagents support studies of host-pathogen interactions, cellular recognition, diagnostics, and targeted therapeutic development.
