Ventral Root Stimulation

Ventral root stimulation is a neuromodulation technique that electrically activates the motor nerve fibers emerging from the spinal cord, making it useful for studying and influencing motor control. Applying controlled electrical pulses to a ventral root depolarizes efferent axons and can evoke patterned muscle contractions without directly stimulating the brain or sensory pathways. In neuroscience, this approach helps researchers examine spinal motor circuits, map connections between neural activity and movement, and test interventions for impaired motor function. It also supports investigations of spinal cord injury, neuroprosthetic control, and activity-dependent rehabilitation by providing a direct route to the peripheral motor system.
