Fluorescent Gel Scanning

Fluorescent gel scanning is an imaging method that detects fluorescently labeled molecules separated in a gel, allowing researchers to visualize and quantify biochemical samples. After electrophoresis, fluorescent dyes or tags emit light at characteristic wavelengths when excited by the scanner; optical filters and a detector capture this signal to produce an image, with intensity reflecting the relative amount of labeled material. In biochemistry, the method supports analysis of proteins, nucleic acids, and molecular interactions while offering sensitive, multiplexed detection. Fluorescent gel scanning also enables documentation, band comparison, and quantitative measurements in research and diagnostic workflows.
