Neural Model

A neural model is a mathematical or computational representation of how nervous-system cells process information, linking cellular activity to neural circuits and behavior. Depending on its purpose, the model may simulate membrane-potential changes and action potentials or represent neurons as units that integrate inputs through weighted connections and produce outputs when activation conditions are met. Neural models help researchers test hypotheses about synaptic signaling, sensory processing, learning, and circuit dynamics without measuring every event directly. They also support the interpretation of experimental data and the study of neurological function, dysfunction, and potential interventions.

Insight into the complex actions of the brain requires advanced research tools. Here we demonstrate a novel silk-collagen-based 3D engineered model of neural tissue resembling brain-like architecture. The model can be used to study neuronal network assembly, axonal guidance, cell-cell interactions and electrical activity.
