Toxicological Assessment

Toxicological assessment is the systematic evaluation of how chemicals, drugs, environmental agents, or other substances affect living organisms, helping identify potential hazards and guide safe use. It examines relationships between dose, exposure route, duration, and biological responses through measurements such as cell viability, organ function, genetic damage, and changes in behavior or physiology. In biology, toxicological assessment supports risk evaluation, drug development, environmental monitoring, and the study of disease mechanisms. By linking exposure to adverse outcomes, it helps researchers characterize toxicity, compare susceptible populations, and establish evidence-based safeguards for human health and ecosystems.

We exposed a microphysiological system (MPS) with intestine and liver organoids to acetaminophen (APAP). This article describes the methods for organoid production and APAP pharmacokinetic and toxicological property assessments in the MPS. It also describes the tissue functionality analyses necessary to validate the results.

2010

Drug self-administration and ultrasonic vocalizations (USV) are used as behavioral assessments in animal research, but rarely in combination. The purpose of this article is to describe the advantages of recording USVs during drug self-administration procedures to assess affective responses to drug experience.

A Toxicological and Ecotoxicological Assay Based on Mussel (Mytilus galloprovincialis) Hemocytes Motility
