Pet/ct Scanner

A PET/CT scanner is an integrated imaging system that combines positron emission tomography (PET) with computed tomography (CT) to show both biological activity and anatomical structure, making it valuable in cancer research. During a scan, a patient receives a radiolabeled tracer, often fluorodeoxyglucose (FDG), whose uptake reflects glucose metabolism; positron annihilation produces paired gamma rays detected by PET, while CT uses X-rays to map tissue structure. Combining these datasets helps researchers locate metabolically active tumors, assess spread, characterize treatment response, and identify disease-related changes that may be difficult to interpret with either modality alone. It also supports biomarker development and evaluation of new cancer therapies.

TSPO-PET/CT Imaging to Detect Infarct Formation in a Mouse Model of Ischemic Stroke

Source: Chaney, A. M., et.al. PET Imaging of Neuroinflammation Using [11C]DPA-713 in a Mouse Model of Ischemic Stroke. J. Vis. Exp. (2018). This video demonstrates a technique for in vivo imaging of neuroinflammation in a mouse model of ischemic stroke using a TSPO-specific radiotracer. Following injection, the radiotracer binds to TSPO, a protein located on the outer mitochondrial membrane and overexpressed in activated immune cells. A PET/CT scanner detects the radiotracer's distribution and...

This study describes a protocol that uses 18F-FDG and positron emission tomography/computed tomography (PET/CT) imaging, together with kinetic modelling, to quantify the in vivo, real-time uptake of 18F-FDG into tissues.

FDG Based PET/CT Scan: A Method of Using Radiotracer for Non-invasive Imaging of Tumor Metabolism

2023

This article describes multimodality imaging of cancerous tissues with PET and CT diagnostic imaging by using a radiotracer 18F-FDG. Cancerous tissue with high glycolytic activity uptakes more 18F-FDG.

A method of functional imaging of mouse brown adipose tissue (BAT) is described in which cold-stimulated uptake of 18F-Fluorodeoxyglucose (FDG) in BAT is non-invasively assessed with a standardized micro-PET/CT protocol. This method is robust and sensitive to detect differences in BAT activities in mouse models.

Following the preparation of a 64Cu-modified monoclonal antibody binding to a transgenic murine T cell receptor, T cells are radiolabeled in vivo, analyzed for viability, functionality, labeling stability and apoptosis, and adoptively transferred into mice with an airway delayed-type hypersensitivity reaction for non-invasive imaging by positron emission tomography/computed tomography (PET/CT).
